Privacy Policy

    The short version: Flipsight works without an account. We use the photos you scan to return price estimates — we don't store them. We don't sell your data to anyone.
  

1. Who we are

Flipsight ("Flipsight", "we", "us", or "our") is a mobile application that helps people identify items and estimate their resale value. Our registered contact address is hello@flipsight.ai.

2. Information we collect

Photos you scan. When you scan an item, the image is sent to our servers and to Anthropic's Claude API for identification and valuation. We do not store your photos after the scan is complete. Images are processed in memory and discarded.

Device token (optional). If you grant notification permission, we collect your Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) device token to send you price alerts. This token is not linked to your identity.

Usage data. We collect anonymised data about how the app is used — how many scans are performed, which features are used, and general performance metrics. This data cannot identify you personally.

Subscription status. If you subscribe to Flipsight Pro, Apple processes the payment. We receive a confirmation that a subscription is active on your device. We do not receive your name, email address, or payment details.

Crash reports. If the app crashes, an anonymised crash report may be sent to help us fix the problem. These reports contain no personal information.

We do not collect: your name, email address, physical address, phone number, location, contact list, or any data from other apps on your device.

3. How we use your information

To provide scan results and price estimates
To send price alert notifications (only if you opt in)
To enforce free tier scan limits (using an anonymised device identifier)
To improve the accuracy and performance of the app
To fix bugs and crashes

4. Third-party services

Anthropic (Claude API). Photos you scan are processed by Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy. Anthropic does not use your data to train its models.

eBay Browse API. To retrieve sold listing data, we query eBay's public Browse API using the item name identified from your scan. No personal data is sent to eBay.

Apple. Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment information. Apple's privacy policy is at apple.com/privacy.

Railway. Our API runs on Railway's hosting infrastructure in the United States. Data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.3. Railway's privacy policy is at railway.app/legal/privacy.

5. Data retention

Scan images are not retained — they are processed and discarded immediately. Device tokens for push notifications are retained until you uninstall the app or disable notifications. Anonymised usage statistics are retained for up to 12 months.

6. Data sharing and sale

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not share your data with advertisers. We may share anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. "X scans were performed this month") with no ability to identify individual users.

7. Children's privacy

Flipsight is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us at hello@flipsight.ai and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your rights

Because we do not collect personal information linked to your identity, most data subject rights (access, correction, deletion) do not apply in the traditional sense. However:

Notification opt-out: Disable notifications in iOS Settings → Flipsight at any time.
Data deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. To request deletion of any server-side data linked to your device token, email hello@flipsight.ai.
California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of sale (though we don't sell data). Contact us at hello@flipsight.ai.
EEA/UK residents (GDPR): Our lawful basis for processing is legitimate interests (providing the service you requested). You may contact us to exercise your rights under GDPR.

9. Security

All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.3. We do not store scan images. We follow industry-standard security practices and conduct regular reviews of our infrastructure.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Flipsight after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
